Challenge
The quickly developing energy industry in Cyprus offered a unique market opportunity to extend and modify an existing offshore ocean observing network in order to provide fiber optic network services to the oil and gas companies planning to develop this new region.
Solution
OSI commissioned the Poseidon network in 2014, a purpose-built subsea cable system bordering the Cypriot EEZ and enveloping the thirteen offshore oil and gas lease blocks established for development by the Republic of Cyprus. Extending from two shore stations in Cyprus, the Poseidon network forms an 800-kilometer fiber optic ring from which operators of deep water assets can connect.
